Information & Referral

Not sure where to start? Call us. Thrive’s Information & Referral service connects people with disabilities, their families, and the people who support them to what’s actually available in Central Pennsylvania: housing, transportation, benefits, equipment, personal assistance, and more. No cost, no intake, no wrong question.

What people ask us about

  • Accessible and affordable housing

  • Transportation, including paratransit and rabbittransit applications

  • Social Security, Medicaid, and waiver programs

  • Home modifications: ramps, grab bars, widened doorways

  • Durable medical equipment and assistive technology

  • Personal assistance services and participant-directed options

  • Employment supports and Office of Vocational Rehabilitation referrals

  • Food, utility, and emergency assistance

  • Peer groups, recreation, and community activities

  • Rights questions: the ADA, fair housing, accessible voting

If it isn’t on this list, ask anyway. Part of the job is knowing who to hand you off to.

How it works

  1. Reach out. Call, email, stop by the office, or send us a message from our Contact page.

  2. We listen. A staff member asks a few questions about what you’re looking for and where you live.

  3. You get options. We send specific contacts: organization names, phone numbers, links, and what to expect when you call. If one of Thrive’s own programs fits, we’ll say so.

We give you the information. You decide what to do with it. That’s what independent living means, and it’s how every service here works.

Who can call

Thrive’s service area covers Cumberland, Dauphin, Juniata, Mifflin, and Perry counties. Anyone can call: people with disabilities of any age, family members, caregivers, case managers, hospital discharge planners, teachers, and employers.

You don’t have to be a Thrive CIL consumer. You don’t have to register for anything. Some programs reach beyond the five counties, so ask if you’re outside the area.

A few things to know

  • It’s free, and there’s no intake. Information & Referral is the one Thrive CIL service you can use without becoming a consumer of record. Ask your question, get an answer. Every other Thrive CIL service starts with an intake.

  • You don’t have to come in. Because there’s no intake, we can handle your question from start to finish over the phone. Thrive. CIL’s other services require an in-person intake. This one does not.

  • We share options, not endorsements. Thrive CIL doesn’t rank or favor providers.

  • We’re federally funded, so we don’t lobby. We can explain how a system works and help you advocate for yourself inside it.

  • Tell us how you need to receive information. Large print, a phone call instead of email, an interpreter: say so when you reach out, and we’ll accommodate.
